Eddie Murphy is preparing to do something he has never done during his legendary career: star in a live-action scripted television series.

Murphy is attached to headline “The Chairman,” a drama project currently in development at Peacock from “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner.

If the project moves forward to series, Variety reports it will mark Murphy’s first role as a regular star of a live-action scripted television series.

Murphy became a household name on “Saturday Night Live” before building one of Hollywood’s most successful movie careers with films including “48 Hrs.,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Coming to America,” “The Nutty Professor” and the “Shrek” franchise.

“The Chairman” is being produced by Universal Television and 101 Studios. Weiner, whose credits also include work on “The Sopranos,” created the project and is expected to write and executive produce.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, and no premiere date has been announced.

The project would mark another major career turn for Murphy more than four decades after his breakthrough on television.
