Buying Black starts with knowing the story behind the brand.

Look past the label. Get to know the people doing the work.

A shopping decision can begin with a simple question: who built this? The answer is often more interesting than a logo. It can reveal a designer’s point of view, a family’s craft, or a founder solving a problem they know firsthand.

When discovering a Black-owned business, read its own account of its ownership and work. Then ask practical questions: does the item fit your needs, are the materials and dimensions clear, and do you understand shipping and returns?

Supporting a business is more useful when it is a good match. A purchase you value, a thoughtful review, or a recommendation grounded in experience can do more than repeating a slogan.

Our recommendations section identifies products connected to our founder’s brand. Any future commission-earning recommendation should also explain that relationship close to the link. Readers deserve to know why a product appears alongside the stories they read.
