The story doesn’t end at the final whistle.

There is more to sports coverage than a scoreboard.

The score tells us who won. It rarely tells us the whole story. The people who make a season possible include coaches, trainers, families, equipment staff, student journalists, and fans who keep showing up.

For Black sports coverage, there is room to follow both extraordinary performances and the communities around them. A rivalry can be a lesson in local history. A college broadcast can be someone’s first professional opportunity. A youth coach can shape a life long before a scholarship is in the picture.

That gives the game more context. The next time you talk about a team, ask what else deserves attention beyond the box score.

Which sports stories do you wish received more coverage? Add your perspective below.
